Schiavi Recieves Endorsement from Local 2583-Dennis Fire
Retired Air Force Brigadier General Running for Open Cape and Islands Senate Seat
Harwich – May 17, 2016 – Anthony Schiavi, a retired United States Air Force Brigadier General and Republican candidate for the open Cape and Islands Senate seat, announced today that he has received the endorsement of Local 2583 of the Dennis Fire Department, the first public safety endorsement of his campaign, and the first of either party. Schiavi, the first candidate to announce his campaign in November 2015, brings decades of experience in Homeland Security and Public Safety.
“The complexities of public safety continue to expand as national and world events shape its future, and it is imperative that our first responders are properly trained and equipped to handle any emergency. Proven, tested leaders are needed on Beacon Hill to be a strong voice and advocate for them, which is vitally important to ensure the people of Cape Cod and the Islands always feel safe and secure in their community” said Schiavi, R – Harwich. “I have lived on Cape Cod for the past 24 years, spending two decades of my military career at Joint Base Cape Cod, serving our nation, and commonwealth, and pledge to continue my support for our public safety professionals and first responders on behalf of the residents, visitors and businesses on Cape Cod and the Islands in the state senate.”
Brigadier General (Ret.) Anthony E. Schiavi retired from the United States Air Force and Massachusetts Air National Guard on September 1, 2013, after having achieved 30 years of commissioned service. At the time of his retirement, he served as the first Executive Director of the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR), now known as Joint Base Cape Cod, reporting to the Adjutant General.
Prior to announcing his candidacy for the State Senate, Gen. Schiavi served as the Town Manager and Police Commissioner for the Town of Ashland. He serves as a Governor appointee on the Massachusetts Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force and is a Legislative appointee to the Veterans Long Term Care and Housing Commission. Locally, he is on the Board of Directors for the Cape and Islands and Southeastern MA Chapter of the American Red Cross.
“I am honored by the confidence and support from the members of Local 2583” said Schiavi. “Having the support from our first responders, such as Local 2583, has significant meaning to me as a former military leader, Town Manager and Police Commissioner, but also because members of my family have been and are currently part of the fire service in Massachusetts”.
The Cape and Islands district spans from Mashpee to Provincetown, to include Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
